Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4 to 6 tablespoons ice water
- 5 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji), sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until dough comes together.
- Divide dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one disk on a floured surface and fit into a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour filling into pie crust.
- Roll out the second disk of dough and place over filling. Trim edges and crimp to seal. Cut small slits on top for steam escape.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg for a glossy finish.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- Feel free to substitute different apple varieties for variations in flavor and texture.
- Chill the dough thoroughly for a flakier crust.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
