Ingredients
Scale
- 8 thin slices of salami
- 8 small mozzarella balls or mozzarella cheese cut into small cubes
- Black olives, sliced (for pupils)
- Fresh basil or parsley leaves (optional, for garnish)
- Toothpicks or small skewers
- Optional: red pepper flakes or hot sauce for a spicy twist
Instructions
- Start by laying out your thin slices of salami on a clean cutting board. Place a small mozzarella ball or a mozzarella cube in the center of each salami slice. Carefully roll the salami around the cheese, pressing gently to form a compact, eyeball-like shape.
- Using a toothpick or small skewer, carefully insert a sliced black olive into the center of each salami and mozzarella roll to create the “pupil” of the eye. For a more realistic effect, you can cut the olives into smaller pieces or use mini black olive slices.
- Place each assembled eyeball appetizer on a serving platter. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley leaves for a touch of greenery and enhanced visual appeal. For those who like a spicy kick, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes can be added on top.
Notes
- Use high-quality salami and fresh mozzarella for the best taste and appearance.
- Keep the ingredients chilled until serving to prevent melting or spoilage.
- Be gentle when inserting the olives to avoid tearing the salami.
- For a more vibrant look, add small pieces of red or green bell peppers as additional “bloodshot” effects.
