Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Cooking spray or parchment paper
- Optional: melted chocolate or caramel for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly spray it with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture starts to boil. Remove from heat and stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms. Return to heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring to cook off excess moisture.
- Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Allow to cool slightly, then add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and glossy.
- Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip. Pipe small 1-inch bites onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and let cool slightly.
- Mix granulated sugar with cinnamon in a shallow dish. Roll each baked churro bite in the cinnamon sugar. For extra decadence, drizzle with melted chocolate or caramel sauce.
Notes
- Use a star-tipped piping bag for authentic churro texture.
- Adjust baking time for a chewier or crunchier finish.
- Experiment with coatings such as crushed nuts or sprinkles.
- Ensure the dough is not too hot when adding the egg to prevent curdling.
