Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
- Optional: honey or jam for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt to create a fluffy base.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or fingertips, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually pour in the milk, gently stirring until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be sticky but workable.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, fold a few times, then pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits using a cutter or glass and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Brush the tops with melted butter. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and risen. Brush with additional butter if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the butter remains cold for flaky layers.
- Do not overmix the dough to keep biscuits tender.
- For extra flavor, add cheese, herbs, or dried fruits into the dough.
- Serve warm with honey, jam, or a spread of butter.
