Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
- 5 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in the chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water gradually, mixing until dough comes together. Divide dough in half, form into disks, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one disk on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan.
- Transfer crust to pie dish. Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Fill the crust with apple mixture. Roll out second disk and place over filling, trimming and crimping edges.
- Cut small vent holes on top. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- For a touch of extra flavor, brush the crust with an egg wash before baking.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added indulgence.
