Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices rye bread
- 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and cook the sliced onions until caramelized, about 15 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Form ground beef into four patties. Season with salt and pepper.
- In the same skillet, cook the beef patties over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, about 4 minutes per side.
- Meanwhile, butter one side of each bread slice. Place two slices, buttered-side down, on the skillet. Top each with a patty, a slice of cheese, and caramelized onions. Cover with remaining bread slices, buttered-side up.
- Cook until the bread is toasted and the cheese melts, about 3-4 minutes per side. Slice in half and serve hot.
Notes
- Feel free to add pickles or mustard for extra flavor.
