Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 cup bourbon BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese or your preferred melting cheese
- Pickles, lettuce, and sliced tomatoes (optional toppings)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and form into 12-16 small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until cooked through and browned. Meanwhile, cook bacon until crispy, then crumble into small pieces and set aside.
- In a saucepan, heat half of the bourbon BBQ sauce over medium heat. Add crumbled bacon, stir to combine, and simmer for 5 minutes to enhance smoky, sweet flavors. Keep warm.
- Gently toss cooked meatballs in the bourbon BBQ sauce until evenly coated. Slice hamburger buns and layer each with 2-3 meatballs, a slice of cheese, and optional toppings like pickles, lettuce, or tomatoes.
- Place assembled subs on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese melts and buns are toasted. Serve hot for a flavorful burger snack or meal.
Notes
- You can use store-bought pre-cooked meatballs for quicker preparation.
- Try different cheeses like Monterey Jack or American for varied melts.
- Add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce to spice up the flavor.
- Leftovers can be stored separately in fridge for up to 2 days; reheat before assembling.
