Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm milk
- ½ cup bourbon whiskey
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 8 slices of bacon
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk or bourbon (optional)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and yeast. In a small bowl, warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C), add a teaspoon of sugar, stir, and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy to activate the yeast.
- Whisk together bourbon whiskey, remaining sugar, melted butter, and eggs in a large bowl. Add the activated yeast mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled.
- While the dough rises, cook the bacon until crispy, then drain and chop into small pieces. In a skillet, combine chopped bacon and maple syrup, cook until syrup thickens slightly, then set aside to cool.
- Once dough has doubled, punch down and roll out into a 16×12 inch rectangle. Spread with softened butter, sprinkle cinnamon sugar, and evenly distribute the maple bacon mixture across the surface.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Cut into 1.5-inch slices and place in a greased baking dish, leaving space for expansion.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk or bourbon for desired consistency. Drizzle over warm rolls, top with additional bacon if desired, and serve.
Notes
- Ensure the yeast mixture is foamy before adding to the dough for proper rising.
- For a stronger bourbon flavor, add an extra splash to the dough or glaze.
- Adjust the glaze thickness by varying the amount of milk or bourbon.
- Use high-quality maple syrup for best flavor.
