Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • Cinnamon sugar for coating (1/2 cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon)
  • Optional: chocolate sauce or caramel for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook water, butter, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until boiling. Remove from heat.
  3. Add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides.
  4. Let the dough cool slightly, then add vanilla and eggs one at a time, mixing until smooth and glossy.
  5. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small strips or bites onto the baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Roll warm churros in cinnamon sugar for a perfect coating.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, bake a few minutes longer or broil briefly at the end.
  • To keep churros crispy, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
  • To freeze, cool completely, then store in a sealed bag and reheat as needed.
