Ingredients
Scale
- 12 cups of popped popcorn (preferably freshly prepared)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Optional fall-themed decorations like candy eyes, orange and black sprinkles, or edible glitter
Instructions
- Prepare approximately 12 cups of freshly popped popcorn, removing any unpopped kernels for a smooth crunch.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add dark brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to simmer. Cook for 4-5 minutes without stirring.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, salt, and baking soda. The mixture will foam; quickly pour over the popcorn, tossing gently to coat evenly.
- Spread the coated popcorn on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes for even crunch.
- Allow to cool completely on parchment paper. Add festive decorations such as candy eyes, sprinkles, or edible glitter for a fun Halloween touch. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
Notes
- Use high-quality popcorn for optimal texture and flavor.
- Adjust the amount of caramel coating for desired sweetness and crunch.
- For added autumn flavor, incorporate spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.
- Patience during baking enhances crunchiness; cool thoroughly before decorating.
